Some Oscar Trivia
These aren't exactly easy, so good luck with them. 1. What is the only film in Oscar history to win two acting prizes, Best Screenplay and Best Picture but without a prize for Best Director? 2. In the last 20 years, which director has directed the most Best Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress Oscar wins (with five)? 3. In the past 40 years, four actors/actresses have starred in back-to-back Best Picture Oscar winners. Who are they? 4. With Heath Ledger expected to take home Best Supporting Actor this year, who was the first person to ever win an Oscar posthumously? 5. Only three directors have ever won acting Oscars and directed an Oscar-winning performance. Which two directed themselves to Best Actor Oscars? 6. Who is the only director to win an acting Oscar, direct an Oscar-winning performance and not direct himself to the win? 7. Only six directors have ever had their first two films nominated for Best Picture. Who was the last one to do it? 8. Many Best Picture winners are adapted from plays, books and even other movies, but which Best Picture winner was adapted from a television show? 9. Only one actor/actress has ever been nominated for an Oscar and a Razzie for the same performance. Who was it and for what film? 10. In the past 25 years, who is the only director to direct two Oscar-winning performances in the same year but for different films? Comments: Okay without cheating... Comments: Thanks a bunch, I'm actually going to expand this to ten questions and I wil like you too. Comments: 1. Shakespeare In Love Comments: 1. Correct Comments: 7. Frank Darabont Comments: 7. Stephen Daldry Comments: 3. Meryl Streep. Third one's not coming to mind. Comments: 9. Amy Irving. Yentl 1983 Comments: Peter Finch is the only posthumous oscar winner isnt he? Comments: Come to think of it, #2 isn't Woody Allen. Those double acting Oscars for Hannah and her Sisters were more than 20 years ago. Comments: 3. John Gielgud Comments: 9. There are actually two-Amy Irving and James Coco. I think everyone's guessed all the remaining ones correctly. Comments: I knew them all. But then I'm something of an Oscar historian. Comments: 7 is Stephen Daldry, right? Comments: Alright, I'll divulge all the correct answers except one that no one has gotten. Comments: John Gielgud was the third (Chariots of Fire and Gandhi), just need the fourth. He's had two nominations and one win. His last nominations was in the 2000s. Comments: Great quiz but #9 is wrong. There are two: See fact in Irving's trivia section. Comments: Sorry, here is the link. James Coco in "Only When I Laugh" is the other: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001388/bio Comments: Michael Pena was in both Million Dollar Baby and Crash. I guess he would be the 4th one right? Comments: It's Christopher Walken! Comments: Also I figured out the fourth name but it was only through poring over the IMDB list of winners and thinking really hard. His role in the film which did NOT win him the Oscar is VERY VERY VERY VERY small, but unforgettable! Haha! Great question! Comments: Christopher Walken for The Deer Hunter & Annie Hall. Comments: Now, I'll give you the fact that Charleson and Pena were in back-to-back, but that is one of those things that are minute. I forgot to mention Gielgud and I included Christopher Walken just because he's actually listed on the Annie Hall poster credits. Comments: I'm taking a blind stab at this for kicks. I haven't read any of the other comments either: Comments: Thanks for everyone who participated. I'll try to do this more often and polish it up a little better.
